Citizenship
Citizenship introduces students at St John’s to the most significant ideas and issues that they will encounter during their lives. Studying Citizenship will equip students with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to play a full and active role in society.
The course enables individuals to develop an awareness and understanding of democracy, government and the legal system. Citizenship will equip students with the ability to critically explore political and social issues.
A range of highly transferable skills are practiced and developed in Citizenship. For example learning how to debate and argument and how to make a reasoned argument supported with evidence. Studying Citizenship at GCSE is an ideal stepping stone towards studying Government & Politics, History, Law and Sociology at Key Stage 5.
