VISUAL IMPAIRMENT SPECIALIST

LEARNING SUPPORT ASSISTANT VACANCY

Start Date: 2nd September 2024

Working Hours: 37 hours per week

Working Pattern: Typically, 8.15am – 4.15pm Mon / 8.30am - 4.30am Tue to Thur / 8.30am - 4pm Fri

The precise working pattern will be agreed with the successful candidate

Term Time Only + 5 Inset Days (or equivalent Twilight Sessions)

Kent Range 3: Current Salary is £19,152 actual starting salary per annum (FTE £22,071)

From 1st September the actual salary will be £20,251 per annum (FTE £23,337)

An opportunity has arisen within our Support Staff structure for the right candidate to join our Learning Support Team.

We are looking for a caring, understanding and pro-active candidate to support individual visually impaired students to achieve their full academic potential. We place a strong emphasis on implementing carefully defined, personalised strategies and interventions for each student, which enable them to successfully manage their social, emotional and academic development.

The successful candidate will be joining a highly successful and welcoming team, and will be required to possess the excellent communication skills that are needed to develop effective relationships with students and staff.

Essential for this role is a proven track record and confidence in using technology as your daily responsibilities will include modifying students’ work to ensure it meets their visual impairment needs.  

This role requires a high level of tact, diplomacy and confidentiality in dealing with a range of situations.  The ability to remain calm and professional under the pressures of working in a large secondary school is also vital.

Experience of working in a similar role in an educational setting, or the keenness and ability to do so, is essential.
