Order of Units

Unit 1 – Meeting Nutritional Needs of Specific Groups (Mandatory Unit - assessed internally and externally) 

Unit 2 – Ensuring Food is Safe to Eat (Mandatory Unit – assessed externally) 

Unit 3 – Experimenting to Solve Food Production Problems (Optional Unit – internally assessed) 

Unit 4 – Current Issues in Food Science and Nutrition (Optional Unit – internally assessed) 

*Please note, either Unit 3 or Unit 4 will be studied – the unit to be studied will be selected at a later date.  
Suggested Resources

For Unit 1, the following textbook can be purchased ‘WJEC Level 3 Certificate in Food Science and Nutrition by Anita Tull’.

For Units 2, 3 and 4, the following textbook can be purchased ‘WJEC Level 3 Diploma in Food Science and Nutrition by Anita Tull’.

Resources shall also be shared for all Units via MS Teams. The MS Teams group will be accessible from September.  

Expected Homework Hours Per Week

Coursework – A minimum of 3 hours a week is expected in order to meet deadlines and ensure work is completed to a high standard. 

Exams – It is recommended that you spend a minimum of 3 hours a week working on revision notes or researching around topics to secure your understanding prior to the exam. 

Learning Platforms Used All lessons, assignments and homework are set virtually on MS Teams, this is also the platform used for the class to share resources, ideas and communicate with their teachers.
