St John’s Catholic Comprehensive School

Prayers and Reflections

Prayer & Reflections Overview

A key feature of any Catholic school is that each and every student is offered the chance to take part in a time of prayer and reflection each day. This will usually happen during form time and/or any assemblies that take place.

Across the week, this should include:

  • An individual (a student and/or teacher) reading a prayer for the day.
  • A pause/response for reflection on the theme for the week.
  • A reading from the gospel or a quote from the Bible.
  • Explanation and reflection pause/response from the gospel reading.

The purpose of daily prayer time is to invite the students to reflect on the events of their lives in the light of the Gospel to draw strength and to spend time communicating with God. Daily prayer time is also used to reflect on the themes from Catholic Social Teaching, and for students to reflect and respond on how they can work towards their own moral and spiritual development.
